The third National Contact Point Meeting of the EASO Network of Reception Authorities was held on 28 and 29 September in Brussels. The objective of this network is to exchange information, knowledge and good practices in relation to the reception of applicants for international protection in the EU+. Chaired by EASO and jointly organised with the European Platform of Reception Agencies (EPRA), the meeting was attended by representatives from 21 EU+ States, the European Commission and UNHCR, as well as staff from different EASO Units - Asylum Support Unit (ASU), Training Unit (TRU), Information and Analysis Unit (IAU), Operational Unit (OPU).
The European Commission opened the meeting with an update on the proposed EU Reception Conditions Directive recast and the way forward, followed by an exchange by participants on recent trends and changes in their respective reception systems.
EASO then presented its recent and future activities, data and statistics on reception, including an overview of all operational activities in Greece, Italy, Cyprus and Bulgaria. Participants to the Working Group on Contingency planning contributed on the soon-to-be published “EASO Guidance on Contingency planning in the context of reception”, obtaining positive feedback from participants. A demonstration of the “EU profile tool for third country nationals” was also introduced by DG Employment.
During the second day two workshops were held on (1) the development of the guidance “standards and indicators for the reception of (un)accompanied children” and (2) a “pilot exchange programme for reception officers”. The outcome of the discussions will feed into the upcoming working group for the development of the guidance, while the result of the discussion on the pilot exchange programme will be integrated and further developed in a more concrete proposal.
