An open dialogue with civil society organisations took place in Vienna on 26 November 2019.
Co-hosted by EASO’s Information and Analysis Sector and the Consultative Forum Secretariat, EASO engaged in an open dialogue with 24 experts from civil society organisations (CSOs) to refine the process for submitting contributions to the Annual Report on the Situation of Asylum in the EU and to explore additional themes that could be included in the 2019 edition (to be published in 2020). Input from CSOs is valuable to diversify the perspectives presented in EASO’s flagship report.
The meeting participants discussed the structure and focus of the report, as well as the user experience and value of the content. While some information provided by CSOs is confidential and restricted to protect applicants for international protection, contextualised information and notes on the methodology for data collection would add clarity and transparency to the contributions. Participants suggested to expand the list of contributors by including refugees and refugee-led organisations, grassroot organisations and EASO cultural mediators.
During the meeting, three thematic areas to be further elaborated on in the report were discussed: statelessness, gender equality and the principle of non-refoulement. Presentations on each topic were given by experts from the European Network on Statelessness (ENS), the French Refugee Council, Queer Base and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights.
Last year EASO’s annual report was launched online in HTML format to support more environmentally-friendly publishing practices. Help us to further improve the report's user experience by sending us your feedback through the online survey by 7 February.
