On the 19-20 October 2017, 20 Judges from twelve Member States and - under the External Dimension activities - two Judges from Ukraine and Armenia, were welcomed in Malta at the EASO premises for the Professional Development Workshop on Qualification for International Protection. The Workshop was conducted by two Judicial Trainers from the United Kingdom.
The objective of this workshop, which was based on the Judicial Analysis from the EASO Professional Development Series, was to ensure that members of Courts and Tribunals have a detailed understanding of the inclusion clauses for qualification for refugee status and for subsidiary protection as stipulated in the Qualification Directive (QD) recast.
The understanding of the QD Directive (recast) was made through different case studies and discussions on various topics such as the notion of ‘well-founded fear’; the ‘convention reasons’; ‘internal protection’; ‘subsidiary protection and ‘refugee protection’. Furthermore, the Workshop aimed to equip participants to act as Judicial Trainers on this subject in their own Member State.
