On 15 January, EASO attended the Enlargement package consultation on the Western Balkans and Turkey with other EU agencies and international organisations (IOM, UNHCR, World Bank) organised by DG NEAR in Brussels.
EASO provided an update on actions taken in each of the countries and highlighted expected actions of importance over the coming 12 months. DG NEAR encouraged the agencies to increase cooperation.
DG NEAR country desks were particularly interested in EASO actions in Turkey, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Serbia, where EASO has developed closer joint technical cooperation through national roadmaps. DG NEAR announced the main features of the New Strategy on Western Balkans (released on 26 February 2018) and the planned adoption of the Enlargement Package on 17 April 2018. The European Commission’s recommendations are planned to be discussed in the Western Balkans Summit in Sofia on 17 May 2018, to be followed by Council conclusions by end of June 2018.
