Jamil Addou, Executive Director a.i.
Jamil Addou is the Executive Director ad interim of the European Asylum Support Office (EASO), based in Malta.
He has served as the Head of the EASO’s Asylum Support Unit since October 2016, coordinating EASO’s practical cooperation activities to support Member States in implementing the Common European Asylum System in areas of asylum processes, quality, reception, the Dublin regulation and vulnerable groups. The Asylum Support Unit is also in charge of the cooperation with Courts and Tribunals.
From March 2013 until June 2016, Jamil coordinated the work of the Quality division in EASO. From October 2015 he was also a member of the EASO relocation Task Force and was appointed senior coordinator of the EASO Task Force Greece in March 2016. From July to October 2016 he was the acting Head of the Department of Asylum Support Unit.
Before joining EASO, Jamil worked from 2003 to 2013 in the French Office for Refugees and Stateless Persons (OFPRA) where he held both operational and policy related positions, including Protection Officer, Head of Section within the Division for Europe and Middle East, Head of the Branch Office for the French American Territories, and Head of the European and International Affairs Unit.
Jamil graduated in EU law and Public International law from the University of Paris X (Nanterre) in 2000. He holds a LLM in International Human Rights Law from the University of Essex (2000-2001) and a Master's degree in the Law of International Organisations from the University of Paris I (Panthéon - Sorbonne, 2002).
